Politics and Personal statement: acceptable to make brief mention of political affiliation?

I am aware that one should avoid lengthy discussions on political and religious views. My concern is more nuanced. I have included my experience as a political activist in my personal statement (discussion revolves around organization and participation in the political process, rather than political views). I do not imagine making brief mentions of my political affiliation should be an issue, but I am concern enough that I am asking here.

Mentioning my political affiliation serves to make my personal statement more clear and concise, rather than advocate a specific political agenda. Furthermore, even if I choose to dance around the issue, my political affiliation is not hard to uncover given the background information and circumstances in my personal statement.

Thoughts?

If you're writing about a political organization, then they'll figure it out anyway. But if you think it helps, just don't belabor the point.

Thanks, kind of what I figured.
