Is it a proper topic?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Nov 07, 2015 11:12 pm

Is it OK if I write something about involvement in LGBT organization and advocacy, or serving people with mental illness (in a very compassionate way), meanwhile my career goal after law school is to be a corporate lawyer in a top law firm and then become an in-house legal counsel? I'm afraid the admission committee can see through me right away.

What exactly are you asking? Are you asking if you can write about experiences you have working for LGBT causes and helping people with mental illness even though your goal is to do corporate law? Of course. If you look at personal statements floating around, 90% percent of people write about wanting to help immigrants, help drug addicts, help orphans, etc etc. But the vast majority of legal jobs involve helping the interests of rich people and corporations, so you do the math. There's no reason that you even need to address what jobs you want to get after school.
