Top Law Schools

Do law schools see being married and having kids as a plus or minus? I have a good idea for my PS, but I don't want to make it about something that is going to automatically label me as a rejection due to other aspects of my life.

Any input is appreciated.

I don't think law schools care one way or the other. Law firms might come OCI, but I can't imagine law schools give a toss what your personal life is like. (Source: married before entering law school, had way too many kids during it).

Curious as to how law school worked out for you being married and having children? There isn't much info about that experience on the net.

No. All they care about is whether your scores are good enough to keep their stats/rankings high.

There was a thread about kids and law school a while back - too lazy to look it up now.

I am finishing up my last year now, and overall I'd say I managed pretty well (did well grade-wise and got into a good firm). Having a newborn right before 1L finals was pretty awful but surprisingly I still did well. Having twin newborns two months before 2L finals was WAY worse, though - I had two months of sleeplessness so I just couldn't perform (but already had gone through OCI so w/e).

The main reason we decided on kids during law school was so I could be around to see them for a while before getting sucked into practice. Also it wouldn't destroy my wife's (DrRighteous here on TLS) career if I was able to help raise the spawnlings.

Also obviously it's easier if you go in with older kids.
