Scrapping My Topic & Potential New Topic

I have finally came to the conclusion that my old topic was not personal enough and that there was no way that I could realistically make it more personal.
After meeting today with my school's prelaw advisor, I had kind of a light bulb moment on a new topic. I am going to write about growing up during the recession, it's not that unique since most of my class will be around the same age. But I went through some hardships
(mother filed bankruptcy, was technically homeless, college fund was drained)
and i think it was one of reason's I unconsciously chose my major.
Can you guys give me some tips on pointers I should hit? Ways I can make it unique or ways that I could connect it to law?

To be honest, if the idea is that this is a topic that is more personal to you, I'm not sure what kind of pointers other people can give you. It's about you, and we don't know you.

Is there a specific reason?

For the reasons you stated -- it's not unique and every other candidate also grew up during the time period

Hey, you actually edited my first statement. It was the one about my cousin and me supporting my cousin.

That's right, I remember. IIRC, it wasn't bad at all. I think the main criticism people had was there was more cousin than you. Were you not able to change the focus enough to make it work? I think the other posters are correct about this topic; I don't think it would help you at all.

No, not really. It just felt disconnected and honestly, made me seem a little jerkish. Thank-you for your feedback though
