Hey guys, what is the significance of unquoting or asking anyone else to unquote your personal statement? Have their been any negative repurcussions as a result of not doing so? Also, how can I be sure that comments made on my personal statement have een unquoted?

Just want to be safe. Thanks!!

It's just a privacy thing. Some people don't want their personal story on the internet forever, and they can't edit it out of other people's posts.
Further along the privacy thought, some people don't want school adcoms to be able to figure out a person's TLS screenname by matching it to a submitted personal statement. (Particularly relevant for people who are assholes or otherwise less-than-appropriate in other forums on TLS.)

Yes, some school adcoms do read TLS. This is not speculation.

Really no significance. Almost everyone abides by the request if you ask. It's up to you. I think my first draft of a PS might be quoted and it didn't seem to harm me. I didn't want it to be too easy for ad coms to figure out who I was prior to my decision on where to attend. Now I couldn't care less.
