Margin Size for PS

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 03, 2015 4:53 pm

How much does margin size matter for a personal statement? I FINALLY perfected my PS at two pages with Times New Roman 11pt font and .5" and .6" margins. However, a few schools to which I am applying state they want 1" margins. Will I be penalized if I keep my margins smaller? With the increased margin size my PS becomes two and a half pages long. Help :(

1" margins are academic standard, and anything deviating from that in a pile of essays will stick out like a turd in a punchbowl.

Cut your PS down. Fiddling with the margins is exactly the same thing as failing to meet the page requirements, and it tells the adcoms any or all of three things:

1. I don't respect you, and by extension your school, enough to follow your instructions.
2. I can't read and/or follow instructions.
3. I am not a good enough writer to cut my shit down.

Are any of these three things a message that you would like to send with your application? No? Then edit it down to fit.
