I have a 3.8 LSAC GPA, but, like many other undergraduates, I came in to college confused and unmotivated and being so far away from friends and family really threw me off. Anyways, I recalculated my GPA without those first semester grades and it would be a 3.97. Now I know this isn't exactly a special situation, but is the ridiculous difference between 1st semester of undergrad vs the rest of my undergraduate career worthy of writing an addendum, and more importantly, will it help?

I'm not applying until next cycle so I'm jumping the gun a little, but I figure the info will be just as relevant now as it will be then so why not ask...

You can write an addendum, but I don't think it will mean anything and might hurt you depending on how it sounds. No one has to "explain" a 3.8 ugpa. An addendum should be reserved for explaining things that would otherwise significantly hurt your odds of admission or to explain why a particular feature of your application isn't representative of you as a whole (old arrests, sub 3.0 gap). A 3.8 is a great GPA, and trying to explain how you should have had a higher GPA will probably make you sound like a dick.

Ok, that's sort of what I was expecting to hear. I don't mean to come off as a dick with it (I genuinely regret not adjusting quicker), more of a "hey I'm not sure my GPA reflects how I've done over undergrad as a whole", but I can see how it can come off like that. Thanks for the input.
