This is more of addendum that explains sub-standard grades or why you missed school.
I would read some of the samples here to get a good idea on what is a good personal statement.

I was afraid of that, I'll rework a new PS. In terms of this as an addendum, would it suffice? Or should it down some, make it more concise.

Your writing is part addendum (why your grades were poor) & part law school personal statement (how you overcame a poor start through determination & maturation).
P.S. Your writing style is clear & enjoyable to read.

An addendum should be more like a paragraph or so in length, so this would need to be trimmed to the bare minimum.

I wrote a very similar ps - focused a little bit more on the specifics of what I had done since bailing out of my first undergraduate experience to turn things around. I elaborated a little bit more on 'why' I wanted to be a lawyer, and how my work experience played into that.
I also wrote a very brief gpa addendum urging those reading my application to give more weight to the later part of my ug GPA. It seemed to work out okay for me - I'm on my way to a big time reach school.
If you like I will shoot it your way.
