Mine got 780 words. However, I found some people can only fit 600+words in 2 double spaced pages. I begin to wonder if there is a difference between a mac pages double space and a microsoft word double space. How many words do 2 pages normally hold?

Lol. There are way too many factors for this to be generalized. Different fonts would affect this for one, but otherwise obviously there is a difference between character count and word count. If you fit a significant amount more in your paper, than your words were smaller...

It's frustrating that they don't go by word count.
However, I find that the average double-spaced page (1" margins all around, not that 1.25" hanky panky) gets about 200-350 words.

Really, though, stick to Times New Roman 12-point font when drafting. If your draft is just over two pages like this, then it's no problem, you can always drop it down to 11-point font. This gives you leeway, mostly because I prefer 12 point to 11 point.
If, however, it approaches three pages, it's best to start cutting.

12 pt-font is around 500 words after two pages iirc, and I wouldn't think 11-pt would allow for 100 more words so probably between 520 and 580 depending on font, margins, vocab, etc. Just throw some text into a document though and change the font from 12 to 11 and see what happens.
