I notice that some schools' personal essay prompts ask for your personal essay to be written on things outside of what adcoms can see on your transcript/resume, but my strongest personal statement addresses my time as an English tutor working in various writing centers as well as a part of my transcript. The essay's focus, though, is on how it relates to my own (as Duke puts it) "personal and career ambitions" ie my decision to attend law school.

Will this look bad though? In my eyes, I'd rather better address my own decision/ambitions at the expense of retelling some information already on my app... Thoughts on this?

I think what they are not looking for is a summary of of your resume. But if you can write a PS on something on your resume that's meaningful, I think it should be fine

I think what they are not looking for is a summary of of your resume. But if you can write a PS on something on your resume that's meaningful, I think it should be fine

Agreed. You do not want to summarize your resume by saying, "First I did this, then I did this, finally I did this." But your approach of expanding on one good experience from your resume is perfectly acceptable.
