Top Law Schools

Looking at University of Michigan's explanation of a personal statement it looks like you don't have to, but when reading them on this site it seems like most people wrap up their statements with a "why law".

No, you don't explicitly have to explain 'why law.' However, what your PS should NOT do is leave the reader actively wondering why you're applying to law schools instead of doing [x]. So if you write about a lifelong passion for underwater knitting competitions, you might need to pivot to 'why law' at some point to answer the obvious question.

The short answer is No. you don't have to explain why you are going to law school. It should be relevant (duh), but my PS doesn't explicitly say why I want to go to law.

Some schools will ask that, however. I am going to need to mend my PS to say SOMETHING along the lines of "why law" for BU's personal statement prompt.

So: No. But if they ask for it specifically, yes. Cheers!
