Hi, this is my first time posting!

I'm working on my fourth draft of my personal statement, and while I am describing my first positive interaction with a lawyer, I included a short anecdote of how my parents were illegal immigrants. The lawyer was instrumental in helping us renew our visas. Do you think this is a bad topic because we were technically "illegal" at the time? We are all U.S. citizens now, so I don't know if it would be a bad topic to discuss.

Stick with "undocumented immigrant" if you're going to talk about it.
