I would like to use a metaphor and it's related to the theme. However, it's not PERSONALLY related. Is that unconventional/inadvisable?

For example, let's say I want to write about an experience that helped me mature and grow. I use a metaphor about a tribal practice in some country that illustrates my experiences.

I have no personal relation to this tribe, and it is merely for illustration.
Is this ok to do? Or would this come off as a bit irrelevant?

what? write it and post it. you gave us nothing to evaluate.

My sentiment is probably not. Thats not to say that I dont think it could work. I just think using such a strategy is a good way to make your personal statement a little more convoluted and at the same time less 'personal' than it should be. However, as the previous poster mentioned, its hard to give a true evaluation without seeing maybe a paragraph or 2 short paragraphs developed with your idea. Its not like these have to be grand masterpieces, maybe something you whip up in at max 20-30 minutes.
