I just noticed a typo in a personal statement that I submitted to two excellent schools. My numbers are pretty good for both, but I am by no means an auto admit.

The typo is this:

"...to slow spread of..."

instead of

"...to slow the spread of..."

I keep telling myself that it could be a lot worse. However, I feel like a complete and utter fool for letting this get past me. I am devastated. I am looking for advice on whether or not I should send in a corrected copy... with all of one word added into the statement, or just let it go and hope that the admissions officers look past it.

Any advice is most appreciated.

To illustrate why personal statements don't really count for anything. A friend of mine applied to both Cornell and Columbia. The last sentence of both personal statements read "And that is why I want to go to Columbia." Needless to say, he got into Cornell but not Columbia.

Ignore it and don't read documents after submitting them.

After I sent in my applications to schools, I didn't look at my resume again until October of my 1L year. To my horror, the title of my thesis had a glaring typo. Apparently it didn't hurt me any, and had I reviewed my resume after sending in applications, I would have stressed out for months over nothing.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Odds are they don't even notice it, or if they do it can't be the only one they recieve with a typo of some kind. As long as your GPA and LSAT are good, you should be fine.

I did something similar with my statement to Berkeley. I still got in.

My GULC and Duke apps both said something along the lines of "and this is why Duke..."

Got into both.

So, there is a general consensus that it would be a bad idea to send in an edited copy?

You are over analyzing this. It's glaring to you but an ad on who has to read thousands of applications will just likely skim over it anyways. Don't sweat it out. If ur gpa and LSAT is good enough you will get in.

Even though I knew i had opened up a typo thread, and knew I was looking for a typo, I had to read this twice to see that it was even a typo.
