One of the things that prompted me to pursue a career in corporate law was the Occupy Wall St. movement. I had friends who were supportive of it or involved in some way, and seeing how they demonized the wealthy helped me to see how pursuing a lucrative career actually requires and encourages virtue (e.g., intelligence, hard work and self-discipline). But if I used this topic in my personal statement, would it sound like I was mocking the movement and upset my more than likely, left leaning admissions officer?

I'm trying to find ways to explain why I've decided to go into big law when only three years ago I was discerning my vocation in Catholic religious community. I could leave that experience out, I guess, but it would leave a hole in my resume, and I thought it might help make a decent personal statement. Discussing "religious" motivations wouldn't make me uncomfortable, but would it be too personal for the reader?

It's hard to talk about character development without touching on ideology in someway. And any ideological commitment is going to alienate some people, so how would you recommend avoiding it?

Write it and post the rough draft. It's impossible to say without actually seeing it
