Good PS for reach schools?

Post by TheThriller » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:04 pm

I want to write about my job/income and how it has affected and shaped me as a person. I think it's very unique and could make me stand out but not sure if it's attention getting enough for my reach schools.

The topic is: Biking and Poker. I race (cycling) on the weekends and what ever money I make put in a few 8 hour poker (holdem) sessions a week to grind out enough for rent/bills/food. Is this too cliche? I was thinking about more specifically touching on how I really NEED to win my races every weekend in order to live and then taking that money and risking it all in order to get through undergrad.

Let me know what you guys think, this was just an idea.

I don't think there are many bike racers who played poker to get through undergrad. The best idea is to write a draft for people to review. If you can't make the topic work you have plenty of time to write another one (or more than one. Sometimes it takes a while to get the right topic.)

I think you're joking.

If you are, lol.

If you aren't, keep thinking.

Probably just a different one. Some old people are offended by gambling.

does this mean that bike racing is nixed as well? I think I could make a good PS just from bike racing?

Dude, don't write your PS about gambling. And yes, it's gambling.

I think a person could make a good PS about nearly anything that isn't offensive to a group of society.

I agree, although, ironically, law school life is a huge gamble.

I jut don't think "I gamble to earn my rent money" sounds very mature/studious/focused

The bike thing is fine. It shows you are hard-working (I think). Ideally your PS shouldn't be about how you are impulsive enough to to "risk it all" on a game of poker. Its actually pretty irresponsible.

Write about and event that shows and example of leadership ability, maturity, responsibility, openness to new ideas, overcoming difficult situations, ability to handle stress, etc.
