Top Law Schools

So here's the deal, I'll try to make this fairly brief...

I'm a recent graduate, fresh out of the safe, drunken arms of college life. And I'm trying to figure out what I REALLY want to do. I mean, what would make me really jump out of bed and want to go to work. I've always been interested/involved with music and the arts pretty much my entire life. And I've been toying with the idea of getting into music publishing/music law. I did a bit of makeshift music publishing for my band in HS/college and I did an internship for a small music publishing company a year ago. I also do have an honest desire to help artists not get screwed over by big wigs.

So here's the question: do I really need a law degree for this? I know it helps to have the ability to hold money and make contracts. It also probably helps to have the sexy "J.D" behind your last name to make you seem smarter. But law degrees seem so overrated nowadays, and, from what I hear, law degrees sound more of like a huge liability than an asset. However, I think I know exactly what I want to do and I'm not afraid that I won't get a job to pay off the small mountain of debt I possibly will take. I'm just a little hesitant about really going forward with this whole process.

Just for a background, I graduated from IU with a degree in Marketing from the Kelley School of Business this past May.

I know a few people who work in music publishing, not one has a law degree. There are advantages to knowing IP law, I'm sure, but the standard music publishing company will have many roles and you can find your best fit. If interning is still an option then keep expanding your network. For most that seems to be the conventional route.
