I think it's great and unique.
Answers to your questions:
-I think choosing two concrete instances like you have is better than briefly mentioning many
-No, not too abstract

I felt pretty solidly about my diversity statement and addendum, but for some reason, the personal statement is so mystical that I wasn't certain I was walking the right path.
I'll keep the draft up for a few more hours, so if anyone else wants to pipe in... I'd like you (it's a deep like, though) forever!
