I did not graduate high school on time because of my immaturity and negligence at the end of high school. The events that followed have matured immensely me as a person. Would this be an appropriate topic for a personal statement?

There's no such thing as a bad PS topic, only a badly-written one.

This sounds like a bad idea....but you should do it anyway and post it here.

usually talking about something negative is a bad idea (drug use etc) even if you talk about how you overcame it...but it all depends on how you write/approach it...that's why you should write it and we will then proceed to tell you if it sucks

I would argue that a good enough writer can make literally any topic compelling. Some topics take a hell of a lot more skill and you'd better be the love child of Virginia Woolf and Benjamin Disraeli to attempt it, but it's probably possible.

Your username implies that you really did not mature quite enough to focus on maturity as your saving grace. I would find a different topic.
