Personal Statement help

Post by wg1024 » Wed Dec 28, 2011 2:30 pm

I am about a year away from applying to law schools. But I wanted to get a head start on my Personal Statements. From looking on the site I see a wide range of topics. So I am unsure if my PS should focus on challenges that I have faced or my upbringing, which then relates to me being a URM, or on why I want to attend Law School, or all of the above. Also I cannot find PS requirements for Rutgers Newark, but can I write different PS for each school. For example Cuny law focuses on public interest so I have a different reason for wanting to attend that school than say Rutgers.

This is a short introduction I wrote so far, any info would help, let me know if I am on the right track.

On my sixteenth birthday, October 24th 2006, my father suddenly passed away. At a age where I should have been enjoying a care free life as a High School sophomore instead I was catapulted into being a man.

Tough to evaluate a sentence or two without the rest of the essay. It will be interesting to read how you define "manhood".
