Is it true that putting 4 spaces between each single spaced paragraph can count as "double spaced"? I'm a little confused about how to use block spacing...I want to fit in more content if possible, but don't want to disregard the directions that tell me 2 pages, double spaced 11 point font is the max for personal statements. Does anyone know the acceptable standard here?

If they say use double spaced, that means using double spaced. Not using single spaced and putting extra spaces between paragraphs.

Don't get cute. Not worth the risk. Think about it this way. Everyone turns in a 1000 word PS, yours is 1800 words. You think they will reward that?

This is extremely simple. Double-spaced means double spaced. I'm almost certain that, as a college graduate (or a soon-to-be graduate), you should know what double-spaced means. It doesn't mean single-spaced with an extra return after paragraphs, it doesn't mean 1.5-spaced, it doesn't mean using two spaces instead of one at the end of each sentence. If this is giving you a lot of trouble I recommend another line of work.

What? No. Where on earth did you hear that? Double-spaced means double-spaced; it even has its own shiny clicky button in Word.

Indent your paragraphs and don't put an extra line between them. That will save you a few lines.
