I'm about to write my diversity statement but I'm not sure what to write about. I'm considering between two papers.. The first is about my drug dealing father and how that made me different and the other one is having a single mother from Jamaica, who had to work to provide for us, also raised me and my two siblings who have disabilities and how I, even though being the youngest, took up a "big brother" role. I really like both topics, but I'm not sure which one I should go with.

If you're trying to decide which diversity statement is right for you, you have to do a bit of brainstorming first.
Carefully consider each topic and think about how far you are able to take them. It will also be helpful for you to start drafting up brief outlines for each to lay out the bare-bones of each topic. You can also think about possibly combining the two topics, and see if they can meld together well. (An outline in this instance would be especially helpful, then.) Keep in mind that that a diversity statement serves to project how your experience is diverse from the rest of the student population. Focus on this experience and how you could diversify the student body with it.

Write about both. Both are a part of your life and both make you a diverse candidate.

^You think so? Do you think it would add to my personal statement, which is about the abuse I overcame from my abusive father, which made me stronger and want to achieve my passion: law?

Of course. Its about you, your life, and how your growth from negative life circumstances has made you the person you are today

Write about being Jamaican.
