Should I write an addendum?

All of my semesters besides one I had a GPA of 3.3 or higher, Dean's List on 4 semesters, etc; the one anomaly was a 2.5 where I did very poor in a couple of classes (one was a C-, the other a D+). There is really no excuse for it either - the C- was from lack of attendance which brought my grade down from what was probably a B+ or an A-, and the D+ was just a class I was completely lost in. I didn't start working that semester, no one died close to me, etc. I feel like an addendum would just seem like me trying to come up with an excuse for that semester when there really is none. But at the same time, it obviously sticks out as one bad semester. Thoughts on what I should do?

No, first semester sophomore year. I basically lived alone on a floor full of strangers and kept to myself that semester.

would the classes be considered universally hard? say physics 2 or thermodynamics...something along those lines?

It depends. One was a language course that was 5 days a week and I refused to go to every single one. It was not hard at all, I just lost 10 points on my final grade for absences. The other was macroeconomics and I just had no idea what was happening in it, refused to give up and just got smashed by each successive test.

Writing the addendum is totally up to you...but if you can find a way to put a good spin on it I would go ahead and write one. You could be somewhat honest and explain that your decrease in GPA was as a result of two "extraordinarily" difficult classes... coupled with the other classes you were taking...extra curriculars...community service. If you had any other substantial time commitments during the semester your grades suffered.. bring that up! Be sure to reiterate that you have developed better time management skills and as a result have increased you GPA.
