Top Law Schools

Hey guys,

UGA's application has an optional diversity statement, and I'm wondering if I should write it, and if so what about... A little background; I'm white, male, 21, middle class, from the Atlanta suburbs.... honestly I'm not diverse. I played golf in high school or god's sake!!!

In all seriousness though, what would be some decent topics that don't deal with URM status, unique challenges, extensive work experience, etc. etc. Or should I just play it safe and stick with just the personal statement?

I've seen diversity statements that deal with unusual upbringings and/or the culture of parents and grandparents that have worked well; I've seen decent diversity statements about sports, community service, philosophical outlook, language and travel. I've also seen not-so-good ones on these topics.

The best diversity statements are almost always about true, personal hardship, but sometimes an applicant is able to add some color and depth to their application by including a DS.

If it feels like everything you're writing is BS, though, I wouldn't send one.

All those topics you listed are essentially what diversity statements call for.

Diversity statements aren't required essays. Stick to writing your PS-- which IS required-- and make it as strong and compelling as possible. Then, you should be good.
