Top Law Schools

Hi there, first post here! Just getting started with the process and have a quick question (which will probably be one of many!).

I am above both the GPA and LSAT medians for both Cornell and Georgetown. Should I write a Why X essay for each of them? I would definitely be happy going, and would like to maximize my chances. Is it necessary or overkill?

not overkill at all. At best it will give you a small boost/make them admit you earlier. At worst it wont really do anything if you're above median and if it comes down to writing those essays or applying earlier then apply earlier (but it shouldn't given that they're one page and only take a few hours to research/write).

I say write them if you have time.

Cornell and Georgetown don't ask for a "Why Cornell/Georgetown" essay; don't write one.

Cornell apparently has a space in the application where you can write a few lines on "Why Cornell." That should be enough- don't write an extra Why Cornell.

Georgetown also doesn't ask for one; apparently, GULC is a numbers whore so you should be fine if your numbers are above median. I'm not writing a Why Georgetown. Just apply early and you should get in.

If you have time to do them, then it wouldn't hurt to have supplemental docs. But, if this detracts from getting apps for those schools (and others) in early, then don't. There's more risk in submitting them later than having extra essays.

no school (Except cornell if there's a space on their app for it) is going to lower their opinion of your application if you write one. If it sucks and it's hastily written and it prevents you from sending the app in earlier then do not write it.

If you're above median it's not necessary I agree, but it certainly won't hurt.

Write a "Why Essay" if you think it will add to your overall message.
