Is M the only school that requires it. I thought it was just a type of personal statement (i.e. a wanna go to law school bc X is a PS topic). But on Michigan's website it says:

Two essays to supplement the résumé: a personal statement and a statement of purpose written by the applicant in English as further described on the application form.

???

I'm confused.

A personal statement is a personal narrative. What makes you, "you"? What makes you special, what do you bring to the table? What are your life experiences and how does that contribute to the law school community?

A statement of purpose sounds just like that. Why do you want to go to law school? More specifically, why do you want to go to that particular law school?

A personal statement should generally not be a why I want to go to law school essay. If they want to know why you want to go to law school, they would ask for a statement of purpose

is the statement of purpose just the "Why Michigan?" essay, or is it different?
