I'm the best editor on TLS but I only read personal statements from the best applicants. I have a feeling that you're not what I'm looking for. How can I be sure that you're the best?

The best editors are pretty busy people, so your chances at getting a spot on their list is slim. But if you offer some $, I'll put in a good word for you.

I'm the second-best editor on TLS and I can vouch for naterj. However, I will only read personal statements from applicants that meet naterj's criteria.

I'm only an average editor, but I'm a really nice guy once you get to know me.

It's not a question of being insulting, but rather it's pretty humorous how you feel entitled to personal attention from the "best" editors. If you want comments, post / offer a PM and see if anyone is willing to take time out of their life to read through your personal statement. There's no need to act stuck up and picky.

+1 This isn't the military son (emphasis on the 'son" as in a condescending voice. Think "Major Pain".
