Top Law Schools

I always intended on writing one, but some posts on TLS have begun to make me wonder if I should.

I am a US citizen but I grew up in Asia. I was raised in a bilingual environment (Mandarin + English). I came to the United States for college.

It seems like most people who write diversity statements are URMs, so I wonder if they will even care about mine, considering the fact that while I AM an ethnic minority, my race is by no means underrepresented in US higher education.

If you have a good story, go for it. I know a couple people who have written "growing-up-abroad" diversity statements, and at least one has so far gotten into two better schools than his numbers would suggest.

If it's well-written and you have something to say, it can't hurt.

I wrote one and I'm not URM. Still got into a great school. Just make sure it's well-written.

My thought is that if your a URM, you don't need one. And your PS should discuss your background. For a non-urm, if your "diverse" experiences are truly inspiration for you, then highlight them in your PS. If not, I just think a DS is an extra way to score bonus points.
