TNR - ok got that - but can I swing 10?

Post by soesghost » Tue Dec 28, 2010 5:49 pm

Having serious issues with editing - after some massive cuts - which IMO really took a lot out of my essay, but i need to ask- Ive been using TNR so thats no issue, but I have been on 10 which was the default setting. Now i checked the two apps I am sending - Brooklyn and Fordham, and neither specifies anyhting like that - Fordham says 2 pages max double space, BK just 1-3 pages. so my question is, can I get away with some tinkering with margins and all? If I drop tp 3/4 margin Im at close to 2 1/2 for BK - even at 1 inch with 10 Im at juuuust 3 pages so BK is ok - as for Ford i have no clue how Im going to chop it there but i will find a way.

Any advice will help thanks!

Ten-point font is small. I'd never try it.

Surely, there is some way that you can be more succinct in your essay.

Well what is standard? 12 will kill me - maybe i could work 11 but that will still be tough....

Garamond size 11. I did it on all my apps, and so far I am 6/6 on schools, including a comment addressing my "compelling personal statement."

+1

Garamond 11 will save you lots of space compared to TNR 11 or TNR 12.

Well... idk about LOTS of space but Garamond 11 got it to the very bottom of page 3 rather than 2 lines into page 4

but is Garamond acceptable? Im sorry i dont know much about the minutae of this process (hence the struggling), but the original reply seemed to do well with it

11pt calibri is the font when you load MS WORD, so I'm just taking what they give me.
