I talk about being gay in my PS and DS. The trick is relating that experience to how it gives you a unique perspective on social issues. Anyone can talk about how it's affected them socially, but now it needs to be in the context of the law. There's a whole section devoted to LGBT applicants on the LSAC website. The thing with your father is really unique and I think the adcomms will see it that way. But it has to be treated with a ton of care. It's not necessarily "inappropriate." You can talk about how this experience has shaped your views toward the LGBT community, if it has.mrr111 wrote:I feel like I'm an everyday person. Run of the mill. I grew up in a small town in Ohio. I am the product of a split family, which I talk about in my personal statement. I am white, female, American, born to American parents. I do have freckles which always made me feel awkward and different. But can one really write a diversity statement about freckles?!?!
I should add that my father is gay and came out of the closet when I was 14. But at the time I lived 1000 miles away from him. While it affected my life, I don't know if its really appropriate to discuss.
I am married to a hispanic man. At the very least I could say I have hispanic in me....every night! LOL
Need help. What direction should I go in?
