Politically charged... always a bad idea?

I have almost 3 years work experience at an immigration law firm, and have written a PS that takes a definite advocacy stance. Is this a necessarily terrible idea? I feel if I am ambiguous and general on my PS, it will come off much weaker.

I don't know if it is always a bad idea, but generally yes. If you feel you may be the exception, post your PS and have people critique it.

I think it's not too charged except for the last paragraph which I feel is unnecessarily attacking a Republican talking point.

If family values are this important, then they must apply equally to native-born and immigrant families alike.
Sentences like this can hurt you IMO.

Thanks for the insight, some other people have been telling me to avoid politics altogether, but that would mean writing a completely different story.

I think it's a great story and isn't necessarily charged by itself. Your PS takes a fine stance until you shift directions in the last paragraph. Cut that out and I see no problem with it.

This. It is a good story. You just don't want to preach to people.

I got rid of the last paragraph and am working on grammar, passive/active voice issues. Next step is cutting it down to suit other law schools. Thanks!
