Re: Please Offer Constructive Criticism - Personal Statement

It's a well written story, but like you said, I don't know how that has anything to do with you individually being a good candidate for law school.

This was difficult to read. Somewhat confusing. Too many words for too little substance. Your essay needs to be streamlined & presented in a more organized manner. A bit repetitious. Overall, in its present form, this personal statement may harm your chances of admission to law school because it shows a lack of clarity of thought.
Seems more like a freshman paper submitted during the first semester of college than it does a personal statement for law school. And I am not sure whether this was a college essay for political science or religion.
I apologize for being harsh. Maybe others will have a different opinion.
In short, I understand what you wanted to say, I just don't like how you said it.

Ok. I read it. The message of what you learned is there, but I feel like I have to assume it. maybe you need to be blunt: "I did this"-- "They said this" --"I did this in return"-- "we all agreed to disagree and learned a good civics lesson"...

"because of this real-world experience and interaction with civil rights and discourse, I gained inspiration to pursue a career in law that allows me to study, advocate, and champion the same opportunity for others. This hate-filled event could have been troubling, yet contrastingly and surprisingly, it afforded me a terrific learning experience and the focus and the drive that now defines me."

Oh, you can pay me later for that ending.....

you're welcome. :)

Constructive criticism: You have two opening lines ("...unsure what to expect" & "On a cool morning") neither of which are very strong.

The Madison quote does little to help your essay. Seems as weak as your two openings.

Consider writing on a different topic that does not involve quoting another. Just share your thoughts.
