Do you have to mention law?

I am fresh out of college and do not have any substantial work experience related to law under my belt, and I am admittedly still pretty naive about the law in general.

I have read from some sources that in this situation it is best to not mention law at all because I will only come across as sounding naive/idealistic/not genuine.

My personal statement is about about my mixed religious background and my upbringing and how that has contributed to my character and overall outlook.. I dont talk about law at all.

Is it absolutely necessary to comment on the law in the PS?

Don't worry about not having any legal experience... very few 0L's do.

No. In fact, you should try to avoid it. That said, there are aspects of all of our lives that relate to our motivation to pursue law, and that is what you want to relate to the adcoms. Find that story. It can be about anything...a story about structure, morals, order, creativity, perseverance, nurturing something over a long period of time, personal challenges, influence over others, etc. Any topic can be illuminating. You don't have to mention law, but your story should be told in a way that they get a sense of the journey you have been on and why it makes sense for you to go to law school. They want to know how you think. They want to know what you feel, how you feel. They want to know that you can examine multiple sides of issues or problems.
