Value of a "why xxx law school" statement

Is it effective to include a personalized letter of interest for a school or would it appear as desperate. I'm not talking about a personalized statement, but a separate addendum explaining why it is you want to attend the school.

Depends, I sent 4 this year. 2 to super reaches both rejections, and 2 to normal reaches TBD. So ... I would say this, they can help if your numbers are close, they mean nothing if you're an auto-reject.

yeah, my primary reach is my undergrad institution and I'm thinking a thoughtful explanation of 'why' could tip the balance. Thanks.
