Start your PS mentioning your thesis, and subtly mention a background of how you chose it. Get rid of the part about your cousin, it doesnt really add anything to your PS. My best piece of advice is to check out the personal statements section of this website, in the above links. You'll get a great feel for how to write a PS, and how to structure it.
