Good call on the new thread!
Anyone going to be looking for off-campus housing? I'm thinking of looking on and off campus.
I'm a lil out of my element looking for apts in/around the area, esp with the added stipulation that I'll be biking literally everywhere - excited nonetheless!

Hello, most likely future class mates! (I am still waiting on two schools, which are probably unlikely at this moment)

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
I'm applying for on-campus housing, but I'm not sure how good my chances are of getting a spot. Seems like there are a very limited number of rooms for quite a few students. So, if I don't get it I'll be looking for off campus housing. Hopefully with roommates as I'd imagine it'd be cheaper than getting a single apartment.
That being said, anyone want to live with a 24 year old male law student? I'm not messy, and I like to cook

i signed up for the studios as first pref, then villas as second pref. if i can't get those, then shucks i'll have to look for off-campus
so, where you guys all from? i guess i'll start. i grew up in san jose, went to college at ucb, and don't really have a home anywhere anymore because my parents went to hong kong for work.

What's the area around Santa Clara like?
How expensive is a 1 bedroom apartment within walking distance of campus?
I am currently living abroad and can't visit. I am trying to decide between SCU and Miami.

Hey all,
I'm going to likely be attending the events Apr 30/May 1st so I'm excited to finally see the campus and get a feel for the area Looking forward to meeting some future classmates and TSLers!
I'm originally from Vancouver, did my undergrad (and am presently) in Toronto, Canada.
I'm applying for housing and also looking offcampus which also means roomies are gonna be a welcomed and necessary part of living About me: 22 gal, clean, and my vice: obsessive about working out

Santa Clara is very very spacious compared to where I went to UG (berkeley). It feels very suburban and family-ish? I'm not sure about the surrounding area, but the campus is really nice (i think it's as nice as stanford campus).crr32358 wrote:What's the area around Santa Clara like?

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
yeah, I'm also hoping for on campus housing. I'm 24, a guy, originally from Hawaii, went to undergrad at U of Washington, currently living in Japan. I really like the SCU campus, I've been down there a couple times during my UG to see friends and stuff. I didn't think it's as nice as UW, but the weather is much better. It's hard to enjoy what a beautiful city seattle is when it's raining 300 days a year. I'm really excited to be living there, but I won't be back in the US until early summer so unfortunately I can't make it out to any of these events.

Its a lot of homes, not very busy and loud. You're near a major freeway which is nice. It's not extremely expensive to live around there.crr32358 wrote:What's the area around Santa Clara like?

Okay okay okay. I'm coming out. Shhhhh. Don't tell everyone.
I missed applying for the housing because I thought I might not need it, but I think now that it is official that I am going to move near SCU for the fall. Any advice/help finding an apartment or housing is appreciated Also, anyone looking for a housemate, let me know.

Hello everyone. My name is Sarah and I'm coming to Santa Clara in August and if anyone is looking for a roommate I would love to hear from you! I'm originally from Montana, but right now I'm living in Davis just waiting for school to start. Looking forward to meeting you all in person.

Pasted from an email I got from them on 5/21/08:
I hope this email finds you well. Graudate housing notifications will be sent -via email, at the end of May. If you don't receive anything by the first week of June, then email Marc Alejandro.
Thank you,
Alejandra Perez

I would expect they'll be sending out some more information soon, now that the deadline for the second deposit has passed.

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
hmmm well i just got a call and i am 11th on waitlist for my first choice and 8th on waitlist for my second choice. they also said that i'll know for sure in another couple weeks. bah! i submitted my housing request a couple days before the deadline, so i guess i can't expect very much else.
well i guess i'm looking for a roommate. here's a little about me:
i'm 20/male/very clean/very studious. The greatest times i have are with friends. i also enjoy talking about new ideas and would love to change the world one person at a time; i'm interested in having a likewise clean, diligent, thoughtful, and ambitious roommate. However, what I'm most interested in is a roommate who is considerate and kind. i also like to network and have fun after a long day of work. I try to exercise regularly; I consider myself an intermediate level basketball player. looking for non-smoker. PM me if interested. thank you!

hehe its like reading personal ads!
i'm not even looking for a roommate but it was still a very nice ad.
i find it interesting that you applied early and are still on the waiting list.
how many places are available?

heh, yeah why not try to find the most compatible roommate if i can? i think all the grad student on-campus is full. did you hear back yet?
i'm looking at scu.edu/studentlife/housing for the places closest to campus; i'm thinking of moving in the summer, because i'm working in the south bay anyway.

Re: Santa Clara University Class of 2011
I actually live in the area already so I don't need housing. I just have a zillion questions for them and I'm trying to be patient and wait for them to send me information because I'm sure they will contain answers to at least half of what I want to know.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
