PT as well---also entertaining idea of transferring to FT after 1L.
Is everyone happy with their choice? I had a hard time deciding---so please share how great you think it's going to be and why.
thanks future classmates!

Me too!dyermaker16 wrote:I'm also starting PT, but still hoping to finish in '11.
I'm excited, though a bit nervous since it's the only school I didn't visit. Still, everyone I know who's gone there was happy and I know I want to work in NYC so I think it was the right choice.
Does anyone know of any disadvantages to going PT (besides graduating a year later or having to do 2 summer classes if you xfer to FT)? E.g., is it harder to make law review or get involved in activities? What about study abroad??
One girl I know who did PT made law review after 1L so it def. doesn't prevent that.
(I am trying to decide if I should ask to be put on the WL for PT)
Any thoughts, folks?
BTW, just something to make you feel good if you are def. going to Fordham: I talked to about 6 lawyers (in private practice and public interest) and one law prof, all in NY, who advised me to go to Fordham over all other NYC schools (except NYU and Columbia, which were not on the table), even tho I had gotten more $$ from the other schools. They all agreed that Fordham has a great program......so, i'm excited!

Starting PT as well, hoping to transfer after the first year. Has anyone received their financial aid information yet? I only applied last weekend, but I already got denied from TAP and I'm worried about not receiving federal loans. They seemed to ask a lot of questions about your parents financial situation, regardless of the fact that I've been financially independent for 2 years. I'm not expecting grants, but I am expecting good loans.

Re: Fordham Law Class of 2011
i am going to pay full price. i have been financially independent from my parents for 6 years, but because of their income, i am not getting any need based grants. mem355, in a worst case, expect to get $20,500 in stafford loans, the rest of the money you can loan in GradPlus loan. This amount of debt clearly scares me, but after everything I read here and other forums, it seems like Fordham is my best option. My options were Brooklyn with half the debt versus taking out the debt to pay for Fordham. Most law related blogs are basically saying the same thing. Here's a good example of one. http://www.law.com/jsp/law/careercenter ... 8256428026
I guess after reading all that and lots of thinking, I am taking a big risk and going with Fordham. G'luck to all with ur decisions.

It just seems ridiculous that they assume your parents are paying for your school if they can afford it. I wish that was the case!!!

Re: Fordham Law Class of 2011
if you guys were in my decision, with a chance to attend hastings at about 20k or Fordham at full price, what would you do, assuming CA and NY are about equal in my mind...i know fordham has probably somewhat better job opportunities, but hastings is much better than say Brooklyn or Cardozo/...

i completely agree with you. i think it is very ridiculous to expect that when an applicant is 28.... and married. but, they stress that need based aid is given to applicants based on their socio-economic background and current state. Also, they also stress that they do not often give it to P/T students because these students supposedly work full-time. But, each case is personal, so definitely contact them about your award.mem355 wrote:It just seems ridiculous that they assume your parents are paying for your school if they can afford it. However, if they really like you, they will give you a merit scholarship. They do not seem to have clear policies about that, but I'm assuming you have to have an LSAT and a GPA that is higher than their 75th percentile of admitted class.

Re: Fordham Law Class of 2011
what do you expect, them to pump you up on Fordham when your a Cornell admitted student? At the tour I went to, most of the conversation seemed to be between Fordham and BU or BC, not much Cornell talk. The consensus seemed to be if you want NY, then Fordham, Mass., then the B schools...Did the people you talked to mention anything about Cornell in comparison? I wonder if it was just some Cornell alumni hating on Fordham. They did graduate between 20 & 30 years ago as well. Back then, I don't think Fordham had quite the reputation that is has now.

mattalones-
Why did you sense they "frowned" upon fordham? From everything I can tell it's highly regarded.
My apprehension was mainly because I turned down money from Brooklyn (with which I was impressed) for full price at Fordham. Although it wasn't a tremendous amount, every bit helps when you're considering ten of thousands of dollars worth of debt.
I think Fordham places as well as Cornell in NYC as far as jobs.
