Suffolk Law 2011
Looks like I will be starting in the night division this fall (assuming I get rejected off the waitlist at UConn). Is anyone else going to Suffolk?

If you're committed to going, be very careful to finish at the top. There's 4 law schools in Boston that will get preference in a the small market. I know someone that finished in the middle and after 5 years out he finally but only makes 70-80k (for first 2 years he had to law temp at 15-25 bucks an hour). His current job involves him basically proofing 6 days a week..eeek.. And, he says most of his friends are in same boat.
Word hard to finish at the top.

Yes, great location...and a beautiful building.
And agree with the warning to finish at the top...there is still Harvard, BU, BC & Northeastern to compete with.
But...with that in mind...if you do do well at Suffolk, you can do pretty well for yourself...I know and work with a number of attorneys who went there for night school way back in the day...and are working with/doing the same work as/making the same money as attorney's who went to Top 25 schools. This is largely due to Suffolk's wonderful network in Boston.
That said, these attorney's are some of the most diligent, hard working, and intelligent people I have ever met in my life, and they've worked very hard since they were deemed "the underdog" (even if that title is not always deserved)...keep that in mind as you work on your studies there.

Re: Suffolk Law 2011
I just got accepted, with almost full tuition (maintain GPA>3.0). But I also got into Uconn with a one year scholarship that would reduce tuition to instate, then instate 2L, 3L. I also could go to NESL for free. Between Uconn/Suffolk, and Suffolk/NESL it seems like a tough decesion. I don't know who to choose really. I hate the prospect of my JD school not being "prestigous" enough for future employment. It sucks. It seems like those who don't graduate top 10% at these T3/T4 schools close a lot of doors. Even top 5% doesn't matter in some cases, just because of your schools prestige. Is it worth paying 90K for Uconn rather than just 10K at Suffolk and nothing at NESL? (parents live in Mass) I want to work in Boston/eastern New England. Not sure what yet, maybe IP, Environmental law. Would love a private practice someday. I have a graduate degree in Science. I just hate the idea of interest accumulating while I don't have a job.

Why would you choose NESL in that scenario? It seems like Suffolk offered lots of money...so it should be them or UConn. I would have liked to go to Suffolk, but I got no money offered, and I had substantially cheaper options. Bastards. If you want to work in Boston, I would say UConn is not going to be better than Suffolk. Anyone else?

I am attending BU Law in the fall, but I am starting my apartment/roomate search now. Anyone have and advice, thoughts, resources they are willing to offer regarding housing in Boston...? I was just there last week for the first time, and I liked the Brookline areas - Wash. Square + Coolidge Corner. I also liked Cambridge. I didn't get to see Beacon Hill or North End, but those areas are supposed to be great.
Anyone here looking for roommates for the fall?

I was accepted to both Suffolk and UConn. Just received a scholarship from the latter. For me, it basically boiled down to odds of placement at top firms and classroom size. This article provides a good synopsis(pdf near end) of top firm placement on page 6 (Suffolk) and page 10 (UConn). Obviously, you shouldn't base your decision on this alone. Good Luck!
