Found this interesting story off of Drudge today. For the first time in my life it actually makes corporate sound mildly more interesting than getting a screw driver lodged into your ear.

From the information I've gathered, it seems like the buyout going through would be best, as it would make STL even more of a beer city than it already is, while ensuring that the imports distributed by A-B stay there.
Whatever happens, I still want to be able to get good beer!

SMC, sweetheart, haven't you ever studied politics? The buyout would be horrible for St. Louis. All the "positive" information you've gathered is InBev trying to make it look better than it is. And trust me, regardless of who distributes InBev's imports, you can still pick them up at supermarkets and sit in your boxers in your apartment and enjoy them by yourself on a 13 degree January Saturday afternoon. Oy, sadly that's a definite real possibility.

You're probably right. I will confess to knowing not much of anything about the situation. I just want whatever makes for better draft options. I'm a much bigger fan of draft than bottle.hwmyones wrote:SMC, sweetheart, haven't you ever studied politics? The buyout would be horrible for St. Louis. Why is the Anheuser-Busch PR and spin any more correct or believable than the InBev PR and spin? Everybody keeps saying “This would be terrible for St. Louis” but they really have nothing to back it up. The opponents say all these jobs will be lost but InBev says they don’t plan to close any breweries and want to actually move US operations for all their brands to St. Louis. We have no way of knowing which side is correct unless the buyout actually occurs and the reconfiguration runs its course.hwmyones wrote:SMC, sweetheart, haven't you ever studied politics? The biggest issue I have with the buyout is simply the loss of a great American icon as it is enveloped in a large global conglomerate.
As a side issue: Now that the A-B Board has rejected the buyout offer InBev’s promises now are in the past. Since they plan to come in and make a hostile takeover, they now have no board to win over with promises of keeping breweries open and other such promises they have made over the last month. They could theoretically now swoop in with their hostile takeover and shut down all operations in St. Louis without any real ethical quandary because all those promises were made in relation to an offer before the A-B Board which has since been rejected.

IMO, the whole InBev situation does sort of reveal how curiously myopic and insular Americans can be sometimes. We pride ourselves on free market capitalism, but when a foreign company--operating under those same principles--comes in and tries to buy AB, we St. Louisans cry foul and indict that company as some cold, evil corporate entity with no concern for culture, tradition, or local economy. So what does AB do in an attempt to stave off a buy-out? They turn around and try to buy up the Mexican brewery Grupo Modelo. Meanwhile, we all sit on the sidelines cheering such an acquisition without so much as a thought about how that might affect the economies, traditions, etc. of towns in Mexico. Again, this is not some anti-American rant. I'm from St. Louis and personally hope the buy-out doesn't go through, but at the same time I think it reveals a certain level of hypocrisy.

Why I am un-Americanhwmyones wrote:But August Busch said the entire time he'd reject it. I'm not saying that I have any information to back it up, but this is politics, since when do you need facts? You must be from Belgium, supporting InBev. This is America. Anheuser-Busch is as American as melting yellow cheese on things! Leave if you don't like it!

OK I ran out of things.
But seriously, I am less in support of the InBev takeover than I am of the mindset that people are over reacting and that it will not be as bad as they all expect.

Stella Artois?!?! That colored water, I'd call it something worse, but we're keeping it hospitable here. Even Bud is pretty bad, but I'll choose it before Miller or Coors. For a true beer, try Widmer, Deschutes, or Bridgeport. Heck, even New Belgium.rhit2004 wrote:Why I am un-American

I was choosing InBev's flagship beer over A-B's flagship beer to make my point.uclastarshield wrote:Stella Artois?!?! Did you guys hear that AB sent some Budweiser to Germany to be scientifically tested?
The german scientists sent back the results to AB. They determined that the clydesdale has diabetes.
