if you're going to live in DeMum you might as well go to Vandy. You'll be just as far away

On a different note, I got accepted off Vandy's WL earlier today. Not sure how much $ I'd be getting from them, if any; #'s twins got $30-45k, but were admitted straight up. I'll find out. But yeah, I have 'til Monday to decide! What to do... :( :|
Congrats, rezipsa. I'm on that WL, too. Would you mind posting (or PMing) your numbers? I completely understand if not, but just wondering where I would stand. Thanks.

two words: bar italia

(not attending...not yet anyway...but I live in STL so I feel an overwhelming urge to be a part of this thread)

Also, coffee cartel is a cool hangout/nice place to study that is open 24 hours and serves ridiculously bad coffee.

And if you go to Drunken Fish, get the White Tiger.

And that concludes my knowledge of Central West End.

Do any of you guys/girls with knowledge of STL know of any good micro-breweries there? I'm all about trying beer I've never had before, so I'd appreciate hearing about any places that I should try. Thanks.

Oh yeah, and Chuck Berry performs at Blueberry Hill (on the Loop) like once a month. Definitely worth checking out.

Ok I'm really sorry I keep hi-jacking this thread, I can't help it.

Regarding the above post, check out Schlafly beer at the Tap Room. It's downtown at Locust and 21st.

Naw man, I appreciate the information. I've actually had Schlafly before. It's not bad.

I'm kind of ashamed that I can't really remember any other micro-breweries here off the top of my head. But if you like variety and a big selection you can always try Growler's Pub. If you try every single beer they offer they give you your own beer stein and a plaque on the wall.

It's out in the suburbs though.

Schafly at their Bottleworks brewpub is fun. You should know, though, that the St. Louisians take their A-B products pretty seriously. If you go to some of the little local neighborhood bars, don't even think of asking for something else! Civic pride is running especially strong now that InBev has offered to buy A-B I hear.

Yeah, this has me worried.

I really hate Budweiser, Budlight (the Lime isn't that bad), etc. What are some of the better A-B beers?

Well, the Hoegarden and ShockTop excites me (I knew ShockTop was a Busch beer, just had forgotten). I've had the Bare Knuckle stout and thought it was alright (I'll just take a Guinness though, thank you very much). Any others on there that anyone recommends?

I'm a pretty big fan of stella and leffe blonde, never had the brown. Beck's, bass, and grolsch are all pretty solid too. All this talk is making me thirsty.

I'll have to try the Leffe. Not a huge fan of Bass, unless it's in the form of a Black and Tan. Grolsch seems interesting, too. About 6 weeks before I'm there for good. Can't wait.

Schlafly Tap Room downtown is cool, as is the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood (10-15 min. drive from Wash U)--They have free brewery tours that include free beer. Square One Brewery is in the Lafayette Square district of downtown. Morgan Street Brewery is downtown on the Landing. Alandale Brewery is out in kirkwood (20-25 min. drive from Wash U.) Also, a new place called Buffalo Brewing Co. just opened up next to the Saint Louis University arena. I haven't been to all these places so I can't tell you too much about them, but at least you have the names now if you want to look them up.

Awesome! Thanks so much. I will definitely look these places up.

I figured I should point out that a large portion of the imports on that list are ironically actually InBev owned products that A-B is just the US distributor for. These include such favorites as Stella Artois, Bass, Becks, Boddingtons, Hoegaarden, Leffe, Lowenbrau, Staropramen, and Tennent's Lager. My concern is that if the buyout falls through InBev will grant the distribution rights to Miller/Coors/etc. and those precious imports will disappear from St. Louis.
