hey guys,

im on the waitlist for Loyola but it is still a school i'm considering if i am accepted. i was wondering what the grading curve is like. i'm also considering pepperdine but read up on their grading curve and it seems a bit harsh.

at pepperdine, at least 32% of the students in every first year class received a grade below a B-. as i understand it, at hastings over the past years, teachers were required to give 20-35% of the students grades below a B-. 35% being the max! (this was before hastings relaxed their curve.) at pepperdine 35% seems to be around the norm. now hastings professors are instructed to give only 12-17% of their students grades below a B-. pepperdine's curve seems to be much harsher than hastings' future curve.

i was wondering if loyola's grading curve is similar. thanks!

I don't really look at grading curves. I look at what the NALP says is required to be in the top 10%/25%/50% of your class because I think there's more context to those numbers. Based on that, the grading system seems similar. Based on the May 2007 graduating class, you needed a 3.5 to be in the Top 10%, a 3.26 to be in the top 25%, and a 2.98 to be in the top 50% at LLS. At Pepperdine, you need a 87.725 to be in the top 10%, 84.515 to be in the top 25%, and a 80.675 to be in the top 50%

I don't think anyone cares about your actual grades, just your class rank. Here's the answer to your question any way http://reg.lls.edu/gradesandrankings/rank2007.html

It's going ok, but yea I wish these apartments places saying that their apartments start from xxx price actually started from there.

I just can't wait to get my award letter from LLS so I can start applying for loans. I'm going to need them for my apartment!

I live in Westwood, just on the west side of the UCLA campus. 1650 a month for a one bedroom! Crazy.

Everyone should take out a shit ton of loans. Ask for an increase if you can.

With Loyola's job placement most of us will probably be on the new IBR plan (where your maximum payment is 15% of your discretionary income and the remaining balance gets wiped out in 25 yrs) any way, so might as well go for broke. Just make sure it's all Stafford or Grad Plus. Private loans don't qualify for the new plan.

I think having that info session in the middle of July and in the middle of the week is a little ridiculous. It kind of excludes those of us who haven't moved to LA yet, and since its on a Tuesday night, I can't easily drive there then come back for work the next morning. It seems like it's something that would be good to have during orientation. [/rant]

PBJ time: I am planning on taking the max out for loans, I'm sure I'll need it, especially if you are planning on using some of it for summer, since our loans are just for the school yr.

SB: I also am waiting impatiently for my award letter and info on how to go about getting the loans.

When is everyone planning on moving to LA?

No award letter in the mail today, but I did get the "Not For Tourists Guide to Los Angeles." Get it if you are able to. It's free and it's legit. I was expecting like a 20 page pamphlet like Southwestern has. But this thing a a mammoth 450+ page book with tons of info in it. You can check it out here - http://notfortourists.com/losangeles.aspx.

And yep, I'm maxing out my loans too.

I'm looking at the finaid email that was sent to us and it said that a link to our official award letter would come "soon" in an email. Did anyone get this email yet?

Damn I'm really getting impatient 'cause really I'm just so bored this summer. I gotta get out to L.A. and start living the city-life again before school starts.

I got the first email, but haven't heard anything else. I figured "soon" meant within a few days, a week max, but it's been almost two weeks. I thought I remember something saying official awards would be sent early June, but maybe I'm mistaken. Now I'm just nervous for it to come! I wish they had better communication on these types of things. When are you moving to LA?

(If approved) I'm moving in at the Medici on Aug 1, which is a few blocks away from LLS. I should be in LA starting July 15th though. You?

The Medici looks nice, I'll probably be moving to LA the last week in July. I got a place in Pasadena and it's really close to the metro rail so I'll just take that in and catch the Loyola shuttle. I should probably find out if the shuttle is running during orientation. This is going to come up so quickly, next week is already Independence Day!

I thought my apartment was expensive! Damn! It looks nice, but geez that's some serious outflows of cash.

Absolutely pool party if at all possible (orientation week?). And I'm only living there cause I got a good deal. But I saw someone get a deal for the Visconti for like $2150 a month. That's redic. There's a stellar deal. Pasadena seems really nice and I may move up there after 1L. Btw, this is from the blog...
