Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
So I had assumed, when they allowed us to select our preferred windows of time (eg. August 4-8), that we could sign our lease/pick up our key any day during that window. Now, as I have to pay my $$ to accept my assignment, I realize I have to pick a particular date within that window. This is somewhat difficult, considering I do not know who will replace me and when she will want to move in (I suppose I could just dictate a day...)
does anyone know if its possible to change the move-in date at the last moment? Obviously my room will be empty for that entire window, and I'll be communicating with my roomates, so does it matter if I decide I need to move in the 8th rather than the 4th the week before or something?

No word, none at all. I'll give it another week before I worry (I'm going out of the country from the 6th to the 16th of July and I'm not guaranteed internet access over there).

Fun (going out of the country), where are you going?
Have you thought of calling them yet? I know the assignments come out in a slow trickle, but it seems like we're coming up on the time when, if for some reason you couldn't accept your housing assignment, you'd need to start making other arrangements.

Central Europe, not in a city for most of the time. I figure I'll call them on Monday- people have been getting assignments for a while now, but they never promised us results any earlier than "late June/early July"...

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
My inclination would be to just pick a date and dictate to your replacement (at work? in your current living situation?) that they work around it. It's a small enough window that such a thing shouldn't be an inconvenience.formerlurker wrote:So I had assumed, when they allowed us to select our preferred windows of time (eg. If that's not possible, you should just call the housing office. I'm sure they can give you a way more accurate answer than any of us can.

I assume everyone received the email today asking us for enrollment confirmation. So we just email them back by putting an "X" in the appropriate box? Or are we supposed to print it out and send it in by mail?

Sadly it appears another week has passed for me without a housing assignment... Anyone else in the same boat, let me know if you're out there!
And everyone remember to get your official photo in by July 1 and your MMR form by mid-July! The MMR form is ridiculous, I could have sworn I already proved that I had both doses to get into elementary school and college, and I live in a different state now so I had to track down the old records from my old doctors and now I have to bring them to my new doctor... Yuck.

The FAQs section on the Health Services website seems to suggest that you can use your immunization documentation from undergrad (if you submitted one then) to show compliance at Columbia.caits wrote:Sadly it appears another week has passed for me without a housing assignment... So maybe the people with assignments are the exception and we're the rule. Go team, South Bronx FTW!

Quite nice there. And right on Central Park. Also, there are some relatively cheap supermarkets there. (That's cheap in the Manhattan sense of the word; still outrageously expensive, just a bit less so than elsewhere.)

Has anyone done the computer training yet? I'm thinking of doing it tomorrow at work, curious to know how long it takes/how attention-intensive it is...

I just did it today. It took me 20 mins and I turned off TV to make sure I was concentrating. But, it didnt really require that much concentration (i got distracted with texting for a bit) and the questions were easy (i missed one. i still dont get it. ha)caits wrote:Has anyone done the computer training yet? I didnt get the piece about the lockers either.
Im curious about our @law.columbia.edu email. It kept saying that we get @columbia.edu and the other email is reserved for the professors. But, Im pretty sure we get a law email too. Does anyone know when?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2011
I just went back and looked at emails I exchanged with current students- of the only two who were using their CLS mail instead of gmail, one had @columbia.edu and one had @law.columbia.edu. Hmm.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
