Yeah, I got assigned a time to move in as well (the week of July 28th through August 1st)

The email noted that assignments were made based on move in dates. I also filled out my housing application about a month in advance. Hope that information helps. I bet everyone should be getting their assignment within the next day or two.
I hope so! Though it sounds like they're going through the law school-specific housing first...

I started Ivy Briefs this weekend- she's definitely got some chips on her shoulder about her classmates and the Ivy League, so I'm taking it with a hge grain of salt.

I just finished Ivy Briefs. I definitely felt that chip on her shoulder for the first few chapters (and honestly I highly doubt that certain lines of dialogue ever took place), but I do think it gets better... I'm not sure if I ever really came to LIKE Martha as narrator, but it was good to sort of have an idea of what possibly to expect.

Still no housing assignment... :-( But I do think that they probably are starting with law school specific housing.

For people who got assignments- did you get your first choice of move-in date, or no?

Ya, I didnt like the book much. It seemed like the people were caricatures.

I got my assignment but I am law school specific housing. I did get my first choice move-in date.

Is there anybody who still hasn't gotten the "approved" email from housing yet?

Me neither. Tent in Riverside Park FTW! It really sounds like they're doing law housing first, I'm not expecting anything until late June.

I requested something along the lines of "as cheap as possible" :-) Actually I expressed a preference to live on or south of 116th... I didn't want to be up near the 125th metro, but thats about it.

honestly I have no urgent need to know where I'm living yet- mostly I just need to know when I'm allowed to move-in, so that I can start looking for someone to take over my current apartment.

I received my "approved" e-mail yesterday, with no assignment yet but I am actually really hoping for law school specific housing. So I am beginning to worry that I won't be getting it, if the "they must be assigning law school specific housing first" theory is true. Though I did apply like only a day before May 1st.

I hope those bound for NYC don't plan on taking a lot of randoms home from the bar... I was just reading Drudge and it doesn't look promising...

The herpes thing? Goddamn Derek Jeter :).
mc56LN wrote:Where did you all (who haven't gotten an assignment yet) want/request to live?
I requested a UAH share within a certain price range, I wasn't too specific on geography but I might have requested no further north than 121st.

As long as you did apply before May 1st, I heard from several people that the date that you applied has no bearing on how it's processed.

I had the UAH apartment share as my first choice.

It does appear that they are assigning law school specific buildings first (most if not all of the people who got their assignments are in 420 W. 116th), but the order in which the "approval" emails are coming out is somewhat confusing. My friend - the person whom I requested to room with for the apt share - already got his approval email yesterday morning, so it's not people going into CLS-specific buildings who are getting approved first. It's not by date of submission either, since I recall that he did his housing app a few days after me.

The only thing I can think of is maybe they are doing it (the approvals) alphabetically. Those who haven't gotten the approval email, are you all in the back of the alphabet?

I just received my assignment. 118th street, UAH. My application was extremely vague. I said I would be happy in either law school housing or uah, and if uah then i preferred unfurnished, and rent could run between 750 and 1200, as long as it was commensurate with the room size. However, now I am a bit nervous; how am I going to find furniture in new york? They were probably so happy to see my "flexible" application, and then to be able to consign me to the smallest room in a relatively undesirable apartment! oh well. i will just have to buy a lot of mirrors.... along with my furniture. good luck to everyone on their assignments!

Just to avoid future confusion: law-school housing is one type of UAH housing. UAH is University Apartment Housing, housing for graduate students, including law students. It includes buildings that are occupied by law students exclusively and other buildings that are occupied by law students and other graduate students.

I haven't received the "approved" e-mail and I submitted my housing application about a week before the deadline. I also requested law-school housing (and I'm at the beginning of the alphabet).

Hmph. I want to know when and where I'll be moving!

My dean's certification might be late. Anyone know if this'll be a big problem?

so in the email I (and I assume all of us) got today, it says transcripts are due by July 1. I thought the website had said August 1. Thoughts?

The email they sent May 2 said July 1 for transcripts, and I couldn't find anything on the Admit or Orientation pages about it... If you have concerns about timing of transcripts or Dean's Certs, email the admissions people (admit@law.columbia.edu). I'm sure you're not the only one with those concerns. I email them with every little question I come up with and they are really helpful and friendly.
