Will be attending U Chicago.Does any one know about its environment?is it real competitive?what are the students like in general?the faculty?

When did U Chicago mail out decisions? I have been waiting but there has been no threads in the Acceptances forum about it.

Based on LSN, UChicago has not yet begun sending out regular decisions.

There are some ED acceptances though, dell99 could be one of those lucky folks.

These are just ED. Chicago sends out its first notifications at the end of December, which are ED, and begins sending out RD notifications mid-late January.

Anyone else up in this mother? Nothing's set in stone, but I'm starting to lean towards Chicago even if I get accepted everywhere else (which I most assuredly will not.) Who is going to the ASW in April?

I am planning to go. I feel the same - Chicago is where I will go if I get no other acceptances and is still a serious contender even if I get accepted everywhere else I applied. I'm very excited about it. I was accepted last week (by phone), and am really looking forward to getting the acceptance materials in the mail.

Other than the Mich deferral, Chicago is the first place I've heard from (on Friday). I've been really focused on CLS for over a year, and lately had been looking more at NYU, with the assumption that if I didn't get into either of those I would most likely end up at Michigan. In any case, I really hadn't put much thought into Chicago at all, since I figured if I got in there I would probably get into either CLS or NYU.

Now I'm not so certain that that's necessarily the case, and I don't know what to make of the Michigan deferral. But I spent the weekend really looking into Chicago, and I'm very excited about this acceptance. A big part of the appeal of CLS and NYU was location, but I think I'd be just as happy in Chicago as New York, and the significantly lower COL is bonus. I love the smaller class size, and the purported academic focus; it seems like people at Chicago are actually interested in school for school's sake (read: law school nerds), and I'm all about that. I'm gonna need some more info, but Chicago just looks better and better the more I look into it.

How did those of you who were admitted regular decision receive your acceptance?

1) Who knows? I hope soon

2) I love Chicago, and yes, I live in Hyde Park. HP, however, is not the greatest place to be - it's pretty boring, far from the city itself and all the fun things to do there, and it's kind of dangerous in some places, like right around the law school. Chicago the city is, however, awesome. There's a lot to do, and it has a great feel to it. I'm definitely moving out of HP (I live in Regents) after my lease this year is up, and finding a place up north. Also, don't be too deterred by HP's bad rep - it's fine as long as you exercise common sense (like don't walk further south than 60th by yourself at night), and if you don't like it, you can always move out after 1L (which is what a majority of students do anyway).

3) Chicago is so not as competitive/fierce/antagonistic/antisocial as its rep makes it out to be. I've found that a lot of students are really friendly, nice and helpful. I've missed classes and had several people offering (before I even asked) notes, and there are review sessions that go on before exams that are pretty open to everyone. It's competitive in the sense that everyone's used to doing very, very well, and not all of us (in fact most of us) can be on top. And there are some gunners who are more serious about scoring top grades than others (most of us, though, are content with the thought of hitting median grades and STILL getting an amazing Biglaw job after graduation). Overall, though, people are usually really laidback and helpful (I say usually because the time before exams and time before graded memos are exceptions, but that's not unusual in any law school)

4) I chose Chicago for a lot of different reasons. I had a few choices in the T6, but when it came down to decision time, Chicago had the best professors, a friendly, outgoing and normal student body (from what I could see), and just a sense that people really liked being here and going to school here, instead of feeling like they HAD to be here and endure school for 3 years. Also, I went to ASW and met great people, and knew I was pretty much going to have an awesome 1L class (and I still think that!). In the end, Chicago won't be for everyone. Dean Levmore will probably tell you that at ASW. We're small, we're a little nerdy (let's not even talk about adverse possession jokes), but we still have fun, go out a lot, there's a group for pretty much everyone even though it's such a small school, and we learn a lot too. So honestly, I think Chicago has a great mix of academics and social life.

This is what I like too. I definitely lean more toward the nerd vibe than the frat vibe. (if those two categories are fairly cast as opposites)) My undergrad had the frat thing going on, and its SO not me.

How easy is transportation around the city? Does the El run pretty much everywhere? If you don't live in Hyde Park, is it easy/safe to take the train in, or do you have to drive? And finally, is there any particular area outside of Hyde Park that students tend to live in?
