Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2011
Agreed. I've lived in several places that some people would consider dangerous that were just fine. But I did have the advantage of knowing the area beforehand. And fine for me wouldn't necessarily be fine for everybody.
It's just so hard to tell what's what from real estate listings if you're not familiar with the area. For example, "blocks from the U Street metro" is great if it's just off 13th St but not so great if it's just off Georgia Ave.
Here's another tip to consider when checking out a neighborhood. Watch out for bands of unsupervised kids (late elementary to middle school age). In my experience, adults and teenagers tend to mind their own business but groups of kids in DC are more likely to vandalize cars, break windows, throw rocks, etc.

My brother and his wife are moving to the area soon and are having the same problem. Craigslist ads are usually outright deceptive in the neighborhoods they claim.

Did anyone ever figure out how the financial aid for laptops worked? I'm still not finding it on the admitted page.

If you go to the forms section of the financial aid page and click on budget increase request 08-09 they give you directions for getting a new computer. Looks like they will cover up to a $2,000 machine once in your law school career.

With Craigslist, watch out especially for places labled "Capitol Hill." More often than not, they're located in the far East/South part which sucks in terms of safety/commuting. Of course, if you really really like the Nationals, that's the place to be.

I wish they would've put them online. Since we applied online, you would think they could swing that.iwasgoingtobeasenator wrote:Gewirz assignments are in baby! I just got mine

Yes, it's a great location. It's not really a neighborhood in its own right but a traffic circle where downtown and the Dupont Circle and Logan Circle neighborhoods converge. There are lots of things within walking distance, including the Whole Foods. Having a decent grocery store within walking distance is a big deal in DC.the gray lady wrote:Does anyone know anything about Scott Circle? Good location?

scott circle is also only a few blocks up from the white house - in fact, i think you can see the front of it from the middle of the circle, looking down 16th street.

They give you your room assignment (so like 741C, for instance) which shows your floor (7th obviously) as well as which room (C) you will occupy. Then, they give you contact info for your roommate. You also have the agreement which you need to fill out, sign, and send back. That's all that I got.iwanttogotolawschool wrote:What information do you get in your assignment mailing?iwasgoingtobeasenator wrote:Gewirz assignments are in baby! I just got mine

I'm sure that contact info for your roommate came in real handy, eh?iwasgoingtobeasenator wrote:They give you your room assignment (so like 741C, for instance) which shows your floor (7th obviously) as well as which room (C) you will occupy. Lulz. Seriously. I was just glad I got the 2 bedroom because I kind of enjoy selecting my roomie, don't want an extra one to share my kitchen with I'm going to be cooking too much to share....Ludo wrote:I'm sure that contact info for your roommate came in real handy, eh?iwasgoingtobeasenator wrote:They give you your room assignment (so like 741C, for instance) which shows your floor (7th obviously) as well as which room (C) you will occupy. Maybe there's a pattern I'm totally not seeing, but I can't figure out why some people's room assingments have letters on the end, and some don't.

Does anyone know what the closest housing to the law school is? I am old and lazy. That Mass Court place looks awesome- is there anywhere even closer?
Btw, anyone know what the average age of the entering class tends to be at Georgetown Law?
Thanks.

thanks, chill.
The only thing that kills me about masscourt is that all the awesome gym and pool stuff they have there? For once I don't need it, as the Gtown facility is off the charts!

Yeah, one of the apartment buildings I am considering keeps boasting about its kick-ass gym (to justify an annual $550 "amenities fee"). And I'm all, take your lousy treadmill and shove it, I've got the GULC Gym of Mythical Legend.

Hey guys, looks like I'll be seeing you all in the Fall.
I'm trying to catch up on required forms, so far I've done the Gewirz application...what else do I need to do? I tried to select my curriculum but, as far as I can tell, my lack of a GoCard number is going to prevent that from happening.

you should have a gocard number - it's in an old email with the subject "Important Enrollment Info!"

I still have my GoCard
Nothing, however, beats a GWorld Card. They have a freakin' boling alley!
