Hell no that would have been the best speech ever.

I think you were supposed to be the speaker at my graduation, too, Khordis...

Alrighty, I've signed a lease for a townhouse on Huntwood Lane...anybody nearby?

Define nearby....

And congrats on the digs. Hope it was a solid weekend after everything.

Yeah, the weekend paid off in spades after some initial turbulence.

As for what "nearby" means, I can see Barracks West apartments if I look through the woods behind the houses across the street from me. I'll be 1.5 miles driving and 1.25ish walking from the law school. It's on Barracks Road just north of the 250/29 overpass, if that helps. It has, thank goodness, a decent sized kitchen (electric range, though) and we'll be bringing our Calphalon pots and pans...we like company, so if anyone is up to a little lightsaber dual or lasertag shoot-out in the playground across the street, lemme know.

When is everyone heading up, down, or over? I don't expect to make it up until the end of July, very beginning of August.

Jealous!! I just got a new set, but not one that pricey.

They're the good ones, too, cantwait. Calphalon One, I think. They were a wedding present...along with our Henkel knives. Wanna come over and cook? I make a mean plate of sushi.

I would love to come cook. Although I don't think you can call making sushi cooking. :D You're gonna have to give me the addresses of these relatives of yours so I can invite them to my wedding and milk them for presents! :)

I'm thinking about splurging on a nice saute pan - the ones I have now are not great for deglazing.

I didn't say I'dbe cooking...thus, the sushi.

Actually, our relatives bought us some stainless steel pot set, which we returned and exchanged for Calphalon's non-stick goodness.

I'll be honest - I'm partial to 18/10 stainless and copper, but that's just me. :D I'm gonna get a nice All Clad set as a present for myself when I land that Biglaw job.

But cooking on Calphalon sounds like a nice way to spend an evening. You make sushi appetizers and I'll make a dinner that does not even remotely go with sushi. And you should serve wasabi with the sushi because it's an antimicrobial. :D

Haha, All Clad was the set we got and returned, but the Calphalon is copper-cored. And cantwait...you should serve sushi with wasabi because it's freakin' good that way! Last time I made a sushi for some friends it was an appetizer for tacos - it's hard to imagine two things that go together less than tacos and sushi.

I'm solidly entrenched in the WTF School of Cooking, where you loosely base a dish on an ingredient list and don't worry too much about the details. Martha Stewart, I'm not. While the extra $$ would be useful, I'm sure my wife appreciates that I'm neither female nor a felon.

Speaking of cooking, we had the most incredible amuse bouche last weekend - it was a creamy goat cheese with cranberries wrapped in zucchini skin, jalapeƱo, and prosciutto...it was phenomenal, developing into four or five distinct tastes as you ate it. I'm not a food snob, but I love a tasty bite to eat.

I'm of a different branch of the WTF School: the one in which whatever you make is greeted by an inevitable "WTF?" I'm really glad to be across from Barracks, because I do not want to cook. At all. Forget the Freshman 15, I'm putting on the Freshman 50 by eating at McDonald's every other day.

Also, if anyone's seen the movie Elf, the food groups described there are pretty much the only ones I recognize. Though I am Irish by descent and like adding potatoes to everything. Meat is cool, too.

don't....respond....aahhh, fuck, can't help it.

that's actually not quite accurate. the CNW study that is usually cited as the basis for that claim is pretty flimsy (please sweet baby jesus don't make me go into the details), and its findings are contrary to the majority of the "dust to dust" vehicle life cycle studies.

and yes, i just spent time criticizing the methodology of a vehicle life cycle study. i need to go home, take a shower, and watch the south park episode about hybrids so i can feel clean again.
Good work. It's tough fighting the good fight sometimes...

How much are parking permits? Also, I wonder if you have to pay for a permit for a motorcycle?

you do, but I think it's less . . . and motorcycle parking is right next to the building I think

What kind of bike do you have? I've contemplated picking up a CBR600rr before the end of summer

I've signed my lease at University Heights! I'll be moving in on August 8th. It looks like the walk isn't too bad: MapQuest puts the distance from UHeights to the law school at 1.16 miles, but that route is by car. It looks like the distance on foot is at most 2/3 mile if you cut through Ivy Gardens on foot and take the steps down that tiny slope.
