Yeah I kept out of every thread except the 'Went to Decision" thread until I actually got in. Can't mess with karma like that.

And I'm sure this has been asked and answered many a time, but...is there a UVA Class of 2011 facebook group? And are you cool kids a part of it?

There's a regular one which all/most of us are in and there's also a super secret invitation only group just for UVa people on TLS.

no, not at all. It was just so hard to get myself to do that when I didn't even know if I would get in. I didn't want to jinx it, haha. Hopefully I'll get my acceptance info in the mail soon so I can start figuring out options. I think I'll be moving up in early August.

As for budget, something I'm thinking about doing is paying my rent for the semester up front. That way I'll know exactly how much I have left (minus utilities which should be mostly consistent).

It's not like I'll be investing the 2k in some high yield stock returns otherwise....

Dude, NOT a good idea....have you ever had a shitty, unresponsive landlord? Sometimes the water heater only gets fixed when you withhold the rent check.

You could just give the money to your parents or something so it's out of sight out of mind...

Good point. Although I've had landlords who didn't fix shit even when I withheld the rent.

We're crazy informative when it comes to housing. What do you think you'll be looking for? Alone or roommates? Pets? Walking or driving? Price range? What amenities are a must?

I've requested for the two main UVA 2011 thread to be merged and moderated by J-Rod. I think this would help stream line everything and help the new people catch up on info, etc.

And a future note, to get Agitator to wade into the thread, just make a post about a semi-dumb idea you're going to do

Haha, I know...but I'm planning on visiting my sister in Africa for 2 weeks in July, so I'll need some time after that to get my stuff together etc.

Excellent! I really wasn't even sure where to start. I want to live close to the law school, walking distance if at all possible, but mostly I want to live in an area where there are a good amount of fellow 1L's. I would be open to the idea of having a roommate, but since I don't know anyone I would probably feel most comfortable just getting my own place. I have a dog (around 35-40 lbs) so it would have to be a place where pets are allowed.

I'm not sure what the prices are like in Charlottesville, but I have a feeling it'll be cheaper than what I pay now for my apt in Atlanta. As for amenities, I enjoy running water, electricity, and cable. And friendly neighbors. Are most people planning on having a car? I'm most likely bringing mine unless parking is a nightmare and it would end up being too big of a hassle.
