My financial aid has finally been processed. MisVirginia, you were definitely right about not getting anymore "free" money.

It's fixed at 6.8% for both.greygoose wrote:my financial aid is up as well.

Got my financial aid as well. Basically exactly what I was expecting. I filled out that info on line about lenders and stuff. What happens now?

Re: UVA Class of 2011 Housing Thread
just to make sure (i'm groggy now):
subsidized stafford (6.8% but i don't pay interest during the next 3.5 years), if i pay off immediately after time has elapsed i just pay the principal?
unsubsidized stafford (6.8%, i can choose to not pay interest during the 3.5 years), but i'll have to pay the accrued interest + the principle once i decide to pay the loans?

Pretty sure that's how it works. For the subsidized Stafford, interest begins accruing only after graduation.greygoose wrote:just to make sure (i'm groggy now):

I still don't have mine yet. Maybe it's done alphabetically - i'm near the bottom.
To go back a bit, I played a little hoop in HS and some IMs in undergrad.

1. My expected contribution was zeor.MissVirginia wrote:Ok, so after reading the instructions (--LinkRemoved--), now I'm confused:
Sorry so many questions.
- 1. Since Virginia doesn't consider parents' info (other than that one line "expected parental contribution" item), does most everyone have a personal contribution of zero or near zero?
2. Did other people get Perkins loans? What's the deal with those?
3. Where/ how do you apply for GradPlus since apparently it's not with this form?
4. Is anyone planning on asking for an increased estimated cost of attendance?
2. I did not get a Perkins loan. Take it, it's a good thing and is only offered to those with the most need. It's federal so it's a safer bet than taking a private loan.
3. Gradplus was on that online thing for me. I just indicated how much gradplus I wanted (the rest of the budget).
4. Yes, I will be asking for an increase in cost of attendance. I spoke with Fin aid about it and if you want to PM me I can give you what I know.

1) My EFC is 1,200, but I think that's because I have some money in the bank (nothing serious, but I guess they want me to use some of it). I mean, I didn't even have to file taxes this year, hahahaha.MissVirginia wrote:Ok, so after reading the instructions (--LinkRemoved--), now I'm confused:

3) I don't know, I am confused...
4) I don't think so? Unless the tuition is higher than $35,000 a year... but even then I can still probably make do.
Those of you gripping about getting no more free money... at least you got free money! Be thankful, and hope some trickles down to those of us with none. At this point, $5,000 would be HUGE to me.

Booo, so that means 36,800 for in-state? They gave me hope that it would be 35,000 at the ASW (it was 33,500 this year). That's a huge jump.greygoose wrote:tuition is going up (41800 for out of state)

Yep.... 36,800 in-state at least that's what my award letter says. It has to be finalized by the BOV this month I think.sialeeds wrote:Booo, so that means 36,800 for in-state?
