woodlands might be a good spot for you (they allow pets), quick drive (10 minutes) and nice "resort like" amenities. talk to j-rod, bun b and sialeeds as they will be living there in the fall, if you're interested.breanne2011 wrote:Haha, I know...but I'm planning on visiting my sister in Africa for 2 weeks in July, so I'll need some time after that to get my stuff together etc.cantwaitforuva wrote:Why wait?breanne2011 wrote:no, not at all. It was just so hard to get myself to do that when I didn't even know if I would get in. I didn't want to jinx it, haha. Hopefully I'll get my acceptance info in the mail soon so I can start figuring out options. I think I'll be moving up in early August.Excellent! I really wasn't even sure where to start. I want to live close to the law school, walking distance if at all possible, but mostly I want to live in an area where there are a good amount of fellow 1L's. I would be open to the idea of having a roommate, but since I don't know anyone I would probably feel most comfortable just getting my own place. I have a dog (around 35-40 lbs) so it would have to be a place where pets are allowed.cantwaitforuva wrote: We're crazy informative when it comes to housing. What do you think you'll be looking for? Alone or roommates? Pets? Walking or driving? Price range? What amenities are a must?
I'm not sure what the prices are like in Charlottesville, but I have a feeling it'll be cheaper than what I pay now for my apt in Atlanta. As for amenities, I enjoy running water, electricity, and cable. And friendly neighbors. Are most people planning on having a car? I'm most likely bringing mine unless parking is a nightmare and it would end up being too big of a hassle.

Well I wouldn't wait to long if I were you, the best places do fill up kinda quickly. Some people are bringing cars some aren't. If you mean parking at the law school it's not bad, but if you live within walking distance you're not allowed to park at the school.breanne2011 wrote:

I'm not living within walking distance, so the other people will have to help you out there. I do know that having a dog will limit you a bit. I think Barracks West allows pets, is that correct? And I'm pretty sure Ivy doesn't. Let me check.

Re: UVA Class of 2011 Housing Thread
Merging threads is definitely possible.
As for housing, walking distance would be: Graduate Centre, Jeffersonian, Arlington Court Condos/Townhomes, Ivy Gardens as your best options. As for pets, I think Grad Centre and Ivy Gardens would be out, maybe Jeffersonian too. If you're willing to pay $700/month rent to live alone, Arlington Court Condo 1 br/1 ba might be your best bet but I never checked into pet policies.

ivy doesn't allow pets. the car is a toss up, most of us will bring ours. but, i doubt you'll have much trouble getting weekly rides to run errands, etc. we're a fun crowd.

If you choose to live within driving but not walking distance you will have an easier time finding places with pets and the amenities will be nicer. There aren't any complexes more than 15 min. away. However, getting a 1br will cost quite a bit more then.

Arlington Townhomes, where I think I'm living, has 2BR townhomes, allows pets, has a yard with lawn maintenance included and is walking distance to campus and Harris Teeter

Thanks you guys!! This is good stuff, very very helpful.
EDIT: greygoose: I KNOW!! It was sooo ridiculous. It was completely random too, it was my friend's birthday so he had the VIP room booked for a while before they knew Kanye was going to be there, and it just so happened that he was right next to us. It was so awesome that he performed too.

Hhah yea, sorry to only wade in here intermittently in order to criticize....going to South America for a few months, so I've been busy taking care of things so I'm ready for school immediately when I get back. It doesn't leave me too much time for TLS anymore. And a future note, to get Agitator to wade into the thread, just make a post about a semi-dumb idea you're going to do

I want to take some classes in different departments than law, and I'd really like it to be convenient. I'm glad to know their housing is grody, though. Thanks, guys, I feel a lot better about UVa now!cantwaitforuva wrote:and why do you want ugrad and law school to be in the same place?

You should. I feel that Michigan and UVA are pretty similar in both rep for academic quality and rep for the student experience. But UVAs always about 15 degrees warmer....I want to take some classes in different departments than law, and I'd really like it to be convenient. I'm glad to know their housing is grody, though. I'd hit it if only because she's on TV.
It's a game I play, the winner finds a celebrity that you wouldn't sleep with, even if the only reason you're doing it is for the story.
I've already established, I'd sleep with barbara walters, because, dude, it's Barbara Walters.
Edit: Breanne, that's the CL link I just sent you. It's been posted regularly for about the last 3 weeks, but I expect it to move now that its May. And if you're wondering why I care so much, I want a dog around I can hang with (or walk around UG campus with....kidding,kidding!)

So you want to use my dog to pick up undergrads? Appalling. j/k. But, I must say, his success rate with girls is pretty high. Too bad I'm not a single guy.SgtBilko wrote:I'd hit it if only because she's on TV.
