I like it Grey.

My brother (3L at Vermont LS) was telling me about the huge extramural softball tournament/bender to end all benders held in March. I wonder if it's on one of the ASWs!

i haven't heard from UVA yet, but i'm banking on an acceptance (not to be cocky, but i like being positive)

and if i get accepted, it's going to be way up there on my list, right with UMich/NYU/Columbia

I love the enthusiasm for this school. People always want schools to look at them holistically. If you look at schools that way, UVA hangs with anyone.

I would love to have you come aboard next fall. Clearly as a Niners fan you have good taste and are welcome to play on my softball team.

Have you guys decided which ASW to attend? I'm leaning toward the first one, but being only a few hours away and having not much else going on in March makes me kinda indifferent. Is one historically better attended than the other?

I'm probably also going to visit one weekend in February. Feb Club looks insanely awesome... too good to pass up entirely, even for a 0L.

I checked out the housing options.. just thought I'd post 'em up.

1) Copeley. University apartments. I think it's primarily grad students but there may be UGs. It's across the street from the law school. Main drawback is that all units are 2 bedrooms, with double occupancy in each room. Can't beat the location though.

2) Off-grounds: a couple different options. Supposedly a huge # of law students live at a complex called Ivy Gardens... enough that it probably feels like a "law school dorm."

3) The Ranges. Part of Jefferson's original campus, the Ranges are right behind the pavilions lining the Lawn. All singles. Main drawback is that they're somewhat far from the LS... about 1.3 miles. Apparently it's common for tourists to walk by your door. **I'm not sure if 0Ls can apply for these - there seems to be some conflicting information.**

Anyone from UVA have any thoughts?

Who would possibly want to share an actual room (as opposed to an apt which is different) at this age? I would never have an actual in-room roommate again.

i'm looking into an ivy garden 1 bedroom (which runs 750/month), but i'd be up to share a two bedroom (which runs 550/a person) instead. I just need to find a good roommate who isn't a slob and doesn't play WOW 24/7...

Shoot, if all the roomie does is play WoW in his room, I think that makes him perfect, as long as he isn't a mess.

WoW = messy person, who lacks any hygiene abilities...

I haven't put much thought into it yet, but it seems like finding a roommate and living in Ivy is probably best.

If anyone's interested, I don't play WoW...

Avoid Copeley like the plague. Not only is your desk in the same room as you (there's something psychologically comforting about your bedroom being your "rest space" only), your roommate is likewise in that same room. Coordinating studying AND sleeping with another person isn't something you want to worry about during your first year.

Still, as much as there are good offerings around the main campus, you want to live on the North Grounds. You're close to campus and the good law student parties to boot. There are a lot of law students living in the Gardens. The apartments are nothing special but decent still - if opting for a two bedroom, best to get one with a den that both roommates can use as a study space. Huntington Village is also an option - it's slightly farther away from campus (and a little more pricey, but the benefits are many. The main ones: you get a townhouse with more square footage than a single-floor apartment, and unlike the Gardens whose walls and floors are paper thin, noise is more controlled. Arlington Boulevard also has several apartment complexes for those wanting to be especially close to the law school campus and nearby shopping center.

Agreed about the WoW types. I do best with roomies who encourage me to be social. And bathe regularly :)

I don't think that's true of all the WoW guys: I know a guy who's as metrosexual as anyone I've ever seen and still plays about six hours a day. I have no idea how he does it.

Of course, he may be headed for the crash......

A friend of mine is a 1L at UVA and I think he lives in Ivy-he shares with two other guys and it's a 3 bedroom/3 bathroom apartment and I think it's about 500$ each person per month. It looks like a nice place to live.
